With a nationwide opioid crisis reaching near biblical proportions, today the Biden administration proposed adding naloxone (aka Narcan) to public water supplies in much the same way sodium floride is used to combat tooth decay.
This would protect a significant percentage of the population, and opioids could be prescribed without consequences by most doctors.
Republicans pushed back immediately, citing the cost of such a program as their main issue, noting that rural predominantly conservative communities with wells would enjoy little benefit. In the long term, they fear Democrat numbers in cities would grow into an unfair advantage during future elections.
The Supreme Court will take up the issue during an upcoming session.
