The DeSantis presidential “Rapid Response” campaign team recently shared a video slamming Donald Trump for his vow to protect LGBTQ rights. It should be noted that the release of this video on Friday marked the end of Pride Month.
DeSantis commented in a subsequent repost: "To wrap up ‘Pride Month,’ let’s hear from the politician who did more than any other Republican to celebrate it…”
Indications are that DeSantis' attack rapidly backfired in spectacular fashion!
In the aftermath of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Trump said “I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens” which the DeSantis video calls him out on. The video paints the former president as being sympathetic toward transgender rights, something DeSantis portrays himself as diametrically opposed to.
Obviously, DeSantis doesn't understand the LGBTQ+ community, who's members tend to support each other emphatically. He also didn't realize that there's an influential group called "Log Cabin Republicans" who identify as LGBTQ. They called the video “divisive and desperate.”
“Conservatives understand that we need to protect our kids, preserve women’s sports, safeguard women’s spaces and strengthen parental rights, but Ron DeSantis’ extreme rhetoric has just ventured into homophobic territory.”
So, we have the completely amoral Donald Trump leading a campaign for nomination by double-digits against a righteous conservative Christian homophobe.
